Our Second Visit To Maui, Hawaii

But not our last!

I think I’m falling in love. Yes it’s small, yes it’s been a bit crowded the times we have gone, yes it’s expensive (especially since the fires three years ago) but the island is lush ,beautiful, laid back, with lots to do and the weather is perfect!

Our visits came about because tragically my sister in law, Karen, passed away here while they were vacationing. While Barb and I were dreaming about island living in the Caribbean, they were dreaming about Maui. So my family and spouses have come to celebrate Karen’s life. We join Karen’s family and have a mixed family reunion of sorts. Interestingly both families grew up in the same small community in Wisconsin and both families are similar in size and age brackets, so we’ve known each other for many years.

This years visit was jam packed with Whale watching, sunset cruises as a group and then the men had a deep sea fishing excursion while the ladies did a day of art with a painting class. There was also plenty of sunning at the pool and well as lots (maybe too much?) good food had by all. Barb’s and my room was right on the beach on the 12th floor. I had a perfect seat on the balcony to take pictures of the many whales that are here this time year as it is calving time for the Pacific Humpback whales. In addition the reef in front of our building is named “Turtle City” so you can imagine the daily turtle sightings as well.

So check out my sample of pictures(mostly whales )here and you’ll get a sense of how many whales come to Maui to breed and calf.
