Summer has actually been here for a month or so (some say year round) and with that mother nature ushers in A daily pattern of hot steamy days full of sun with a daily rain storm, sometimes torrential that you can set your watch to. I really enjoy the weather we have here (the lightning shows are phenomenal), except a few weeks in February that has me thinking we have to move farther south! Thanks to Bonaire we miss a lot of that cold.
It’s also time that we break down the vegetable gardens, its way too hot here for the vegetables we like. We’ve tried a many of the “tropical” type vegetables, but haven’t found any that we like yet.

That still leaves us with some wonderful fruit crops to harvest in the summer and fall, although because of the two hurricanes we had last fall our trees are still recuperating and the harvests will be much smaller. Right now papayas, mangoes, peaches, Caribbean plums and lychees are in season and thanks to friends we’ll be able to enjoy all of them.
Next up? I’ve added pictures to many of my web pages since my last post. You’ll find updates on the” food” pages with some new breads, cheeses, charcuterie and a new section covering uncategorized foods. The start of my running species list for Blue Heron Bridge 2025 on the “Underwater Travel” page where you’ll see the first picture on the slideshow that is one that I’m not particularly proud of, but I had to include it because of what can happen when you’re in a hurry to catch a shot. I’ll never get that shot again. And lastly you’ll find a lot of new species for Florida Wildlife 2025 on the “Cape Coral Life” page of which my new favorite critter is the little guy featured at the top of this post. Only about the size of a dime, the Marrow Scrub Hairstreak butterfly caught my eye on a recent hike. You’ll also see the endangered Florida Indigo snake that was hanging out in one of Barbs cactus species in our Bromeliad garden. So hit the links and see for yourself!
